Fortune 100 Companies are Using Social Media: Should Your Business?

June 21st, 2010 | Posted in Blog

33% of Fortune 500 companies now have a corporate blog, 50% have a YouTube channel, 54% have a Facebook fan page, and 65% have a Twitter account. In fact 79% of companies globally use one of these four platforms. Social Media is big business and we’re only going to see more of it as these new lines of communication and community evolve.

iStrategy2010.com put together a great infographic that shows how these companies are using social media in their business. There is obviously much to be learned from companies that have built businesses as successful as those listed in the Fortune 100. In fact, when companies like Pepsi Cola decide that after 23 years of being one of the top advertisers during the coveted Super Bowl advertising slots, that they will instead spend those marketing dollars on Social Media in 2010, you know it’s a big deal.

But you may still ask: How can I use Social Media for my business? I tell my clients to start with a Facebook Fan Page. Social Media is all about becoming involved in the conversations that hare happening online as we speak. Fan Page’s are a great place to showcase what you do, begin to build a network of “fans” through your existing friends on Facebook and become a part of the conversation. Once you’ve established your company on a Fan Page, you can then begin to explore the benefits of using other Social Media Platforms like Twitter, YouTube and FourSquare; and the list goes on and on and on.
